About the AuthorAlex Koh has been playing Othello since 2003. He founded and have been helping to run a voluntary organisation, namely the Othello Organisation (Singapore) since 2009 which is a registered society promoting the board game under the Registrar of Societies Singapore.
Alex has been one of the fastest learners of the game in Singapore history and one of the most consistent and successful Othello players in the Singapore Othello scene since 2008. He has achieved at least a top 5 ranking in almost every National Othello Championship since 2008. Apart from having won a few national titles, he has also won top honours at quite a few regional tournaments as well. These include 2nd Place at the Thailand Othello Championship in 2011 and 2016 as well as 3rd Place at the Hong Kong Othello Championship in 2018. He is a former joint Top 10 Player at the World Othello Championship. He is also the number one ranked player in Singapore for the most consecutive weeks according to the World Othello Players ranking list maintained by the World Othello Federation (WOF) that is accessible via this link here: http://ratings.worldothello.org/ratings_main.php In addition, he also organised the Othello World Cup 2014, working with local sponsors and international sponsors such as the Lee Foundation, Japanese toy company Megahouse Corporation as well as the Japan Othello Association to make the event a resounding success at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre in January 2014. Besides his wealth of experience in clocking more than 400 on-the-board (OTB) official tournament games over the years, he has also accumulated more than 100,000 games playing through various accounts and platforms online. He used to coach Othello at various Singapore schools from 2010 to 2017. These include schools like Nanyang Girls' High School, Catholic Junior College, Meridian Junior College. He also mentored players from various primary schools and tertiary institutes or universities through ad-hoc workshops and events conducted. Today, he shares his vast Othello experience by providing free-to-access materials available on his Youtube Channel available at www.youtube.com/c/OthelloAcademy. |
